Most expensive UK city to buy a Christmas tree named – and it’s not London

Festive season is in full-swing and the time to decorate your home is fast-approaching, which means it’s nearly time to buy your Christmas tree.

As the natural versus fake debate rages on, fans of having a natural Christmas tree will be considering where they should buy their real tree from this year.

To help tree-browsers, Betway has collected data from over 100 Christmas tree suppliers to determine the cheapest and most expensive cities to buy a real Christmas tree this year.

Analysing the cost of a real 6ft Nordmann Fir Christmas tree in 30 cities across the UK, Nottingham has been revealed as the most expensive city in the UK to buy a real Christmas tree this year, costing almost £17 more to purchase a Nordmann Fir than in Stoke-on-Trent – the most affordable location – with an average tree price of £63.50.

Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, is the second most expensive city to buy a real Christmas tree this year, with costs averaging £63.

Derby is in third place, with Nordmann Firs averaging £61, while London is unsurprisingly in the top five, finishing in fourth place with an average tree cost of £60.60.

Southampton completes the top five, where a 6ft Nordmann Fir in the city is going to set you back £60.33 on average.

However, research revealed that Stoke-on-Trent is the most affordable location to buy a Christmas tree in 2023.

If you were to buy your Nordmann Fir in Stoke-on-Trent, you can expect to pay an average of £45.60 for a real Christmas tree.

Customers in Kingston upon Hull will be paying just 37p more for their trees, as the average price for a 6ft tree is £45.97.

In third place is Blackpool, where real trees average £46, Belfast follows in fourth where customers can expect to shell out £46.17 for a Nordmann Fir, whilst Plymouth is the fifth cheapest city to buy a real Christmas tree this year with an average tree cost of £46.75.

Real Christmas trees can cost up to 254 percent less than an artificial one, but over the long run Britons could save £348.65 with a fake tree.

Research shows that Brits tend to keep their artificial trees for 10 years on average, meaning they could save around £348.65 by not purchasing a real Christmas tree for the next decade.
